Hey, I was thinking about the computer I have. I had a slower computer in the past...here is the question.
Which is more important for the overall speed in fps/graphic games when it comes to performance...
The video card
or
The processor
The situation is you have an high end video card and an average processor
vs.
A high end processor with an average video card
Graphics card.
It also depends heavily on how the game is designed. Some games utilize more CPU power instead of GFX power. It's usually a good sign of inefficient coding and development.
On med-high settings it's deffinitely the gfx card
most top top top end gfx cards end up being throttled by bus bandwidth whilst they wait around for the data transfer between gpu and cpu if your running an older cpu as well as a shit MB then chances are the gpu us being throttled by cpu and bus
That is true obviously. Your CPU is still used quite significantly in game processing so if they both can't keep up with eachother then you will be limited by the slowest component.

No I didnt.
You asked what the most important component is, I said the Graphics card. Then I agreed with Hinch when he said that the CPU also plays an important role. However overall you would be better off having a better GFX card and crappier CPU instead of vise versa. Never said anything other then that.
The chain is as strong as it's weakest link.
The slower thing is more important.
(but upgrading gpu alone will give better antialiasing )
Graphics card. Though like Hinch said it can be boggled down by a shitty board and low range cpu. Run something like a core 2 duo, asus SLi board, I like the PN5 deluxe, has a built in wireless G (great if ur using a wireless setup, saves a PCI slot) then a mid-high range card. I sell this combo at work and recommened the core 2 duos to everyone if they're gaming with any high end card. I used to sell AMD's before the core 2 duos came out, but now Intel is raping AMD in the processor race.
indeed the core 2 duo's kick ass however i'd skip the pn5 and go with one of the high end gigabyte boards as they actually support the 4core cpu's too giving you an upgrade path for the future whereas the pn5 doesnt
I got GeForce 4, pretty old and not good to new games.
My processor is Intel Pentium (R) M 1600 mhz, very sucky too.
But i got 1,5 gb ram and thats imba, that makes my fps higher.
I got 50-60 fps in Cities, instances etc. 20-30.
MB ram means alot
Got Geforce 6200, 3.0ghz processor, 1.5gig ram and wow and halflife 2 etc, runs really easy.

Ah wow i didn't know the high end gigabytes supported the 4 core cpu's...thats sweet.
edit: what model supports them hinch?
Any chipset that currently supports core 2 duo will support quad core (945, 965, 975x), although they will almost certainly require a bios update
