Help!

I'm on the verge of getting a new card, and I need some help in determining the speeds of different cards compared to each other.

I think I might get an ATI Radeon 9600 XT, but it is worth getting the XT over the 9600 PRO, and how is the 9600XT compared to the 9800 PRO?

Also, does 256MB on a 9600XT card mean a great boost compared to a 9600XT with only 128MB?

Thanks in advance,
Nightbrother.

Forget the 9600 cards. Either go for an 9800 or if that ones costs too much for you, switch to nVidia's FX series. 256MB doesnt make a great deal over 128MB now and as it seems it wont do in the near future. The moment it will be really relevant, you'll need a way better card to play these games anyway.

Thanks a lot for your input, Lucjan. I can get a 9800 Pro (depending on brand) for around 300 dollars, which is something I'm willing to spend, so I should probably go for that one.

I have a measly 8500 now. Heh. Far Cry is having trouble running acceptably on that card, hence I need a new one. :)

How does that nice-sounding card compare to a Radeon 9800 Pro? Does anyone know? I'm very open to getting Nvidia also. Had GeForce's in the past. :)

i have a radeon 9600 pro and a 9800 pro at home and i gotta say the 9800 pro is ALOT better than the 9600..

also 256 mb dont do shit atm cause no game in the world uses 256 mb afaik
128 mb is enough atm :)

btw you can get those cards cheaper... i bought my 9800 pro for 200 €... maybe you can ship it from germany :p

That would be awesome, since I live in Denmark, 150 miles from the German border. Do you think you might be able to find a site where a 9800 PRO is sold for 200 Euro? If you do, I'll send 2 slutty hoes to Germany to sex ya.

nVidias FX 5700 to 9800 PRO is about "equal". From the technical point of view, the ATI card is faster, but actually you need a benchmark to realize that. In terms of games I dont see any huge difference, I think in NC the ATI goes 3 FPS faster in my app, so nothing worth mentioning. FarCry: couldnt notice a difference at all. For sure the ATI is faster, you just dont realize the speed difference in games without getting a FPS counter displayed on the screen. Im currently switching between a ATI 9700, 9800, FX 5700 and FX 5200 .
While when I switch the first 3 cards I dont see difference there tbh. I sometimes have to check what card I currently use as they just perform pretty much on the same level in games. Only the FX 5200 is noticeable slower on latest games like FarCry.

Thanks Lucjan. The more info the better before I decide which one to get. It's a jungle out there, well it can be, if you don't keep up to date on gfx cards.
