Planetside: An overhyped event based upon the arrival of a 4th auraxian empire underachieves and releases a wave of frustration from disappointed customers.

"What a joke SOE, you had half the VS population waiting in a warpgate to see the new stuff you have hyped up, then you end the event and log off."
(Tigerclaw)
"My god did that suck, no offense devs but as someone who defended you over this event [...] I should have stuck to my usual negative attitude instead of having some hope you would put together something interesting and fun."
(Ravanos)
"Worthless."

Similar and worse threads and posts popped up allover the official Planetside Forums after an eagerly anticipated event ended after roughly 30 minutes, leaving an entire community desillusioned and disappointed and bestowed the Forum Moderators a busy night.
What happend?
Like we expected it, the announced 4th empire consisted of gamemasters and attenders of the SOE Fan Faire in Las Vegas. Like expected, they received large health bonusses and access to all vehicles, including the new Galaxy Gunship and the Phantasm.
What we did not expect, was the poor implementation of the event. Not even a platoon of so called "BlackOps" showed up, more or less randomly spawning at Solsar.
The SOE CSRs made not very atmospheric, serverwide broadcasts, such as: "I'm Uber!!111omgz0r", randomly flipped, drained, resecured several Bases on Solsar, called some meteors from the sky and spawned a rabbit before logging off.
The bigger part of community did not even get to see that event that was none, because it took place only on the American Server 'Emerald'. Many european players stayed up until 5 o'clock in the morning to catch a glimpse of new weapons and vehicles and ended up being stuck in a continental queue, listening to a tirade of hate from frustrated CR5s spamming the global coms.
Overall a very sobering experience, which, combined with the fact that Planetside as a whole got as good as ignored on the actual Fan Faire program casts the future of the last mmofps on the market into doubt.
