View Full Version : Locking a computer to 2 sites for internet
Hey folks,
Im gonna set up a laptop in the store, that only are allowed to visit 2 sites.
Reason is, i dont want it there so kids can abuse it and put lots of porn sites as "homepage" etc... :-)
Will run normal win xp on it, and its connected to my wlan here.
Hope some of you can help me out. :-)
use a router with site blocking on the network rather than doing it in software

Was hoping to not use a router for it, and just use the current one i got set up. (which i use for all stuff in my office).
But got a solution from a guy..
"And after a bit of thinking ( not alot of thinking :P ) ... i found the easy solution :P
Ok here we go :
Open Hosts file , enter the 2 sites you want to be visible into the hosts file in the following sheme
123.123.123.123 websitea.com
234.234.234.234. websiteb.com
Disable your DNS on your computer
Bring up TCP/IP properties of you WLAN connection, check if DNS obtaining is set to auto, if it is remove it and use 127.0.0.1 (localhost) as your DNS.
From now on all sites will be blocked, but the 2 sites you want to be visible :)"

!!!
Basic straight forward block everything apart from the 2 sites on the allow list and nothing else can used period not even msn or some other program.
And make sure its running on a guest account so they can't even get a hold of your settings.

You can boot this straight from the CD and ensure your hard drive can't be affected. It runs firefox and is supposed to be pretty easy to use.
