Planetside: Two new, interesting aircrafts got added to the vehicle pool of all planetside empires: The Phantasm and the Galaxy Gunship.

At present, the Phantasm has a far superior impact on the gameplay compared to the Gunship. The relevant facts are:


The Phantasm is an aircraft with the speed and afterburners similar to the mosquito and armor and handling similar to the Liberator.
The Phantasm is cloaked while moving with speed '3' and becomes slightly visible from short range when moving faster, firing weapons or getting attacked.
The Phantasm can not get tracked by any weapons that require a lock-on.
The Phantasm can carry up to 4 Reinforced Exosuits + it's pilot in Agile Suit.
The Phantasm's pilot controls a 12mm recoilless cannon with a theoretical ttk against a Rexo of 0.96 seconds.


As you can imagine, this airplane is the nightmare of all Snipers, Footzerglings or slow moving aircrafts. Very easy to use, hard to find, hard to take down it can be used to quickly farm any unaware ground troops and escape before getting hit. Because of its armor it is close to impossible for a grunt to take on this aircraft in a 1on1 situation.

As well the phantasm-bombing is a not-intended strategy that players discovered pretty fast: because of it's cloaking ability, it is relatively easy to let the phantasm hover above an hostile AMS, bail from it and let the explosion of the heavy aircraft blow up the enemy spawnpoint: a tactic that is almost impossible to counter, because the phantasm stays cloaked after the pilot bailed.

Compared to this killer, the new Galaxy Gunship seems to be pretty harmless, therefore just a short summary:

The Galaxy Gunship is basically a Galaxy-Variant with 5 Gunners: 3 Rotary 35mm Chainguns at the sides and at the back and 2 GroundPounders that fire explosive mortar cartridges at the front.
Because of it's slow speed and the fact that it actually needs to hover to make full use of it's cannons the Gunship is an easy target. At the moment it is underused and if not the devs decide to increase it's Armor drastically, it will soon fade into oblivion.

I've nothing but disgust regarding the phantasm. Let me elaborate, there are just a few critical points:

1. It's invisible.
2. No AA will lock on to it - TR can easily counter it (balance shift)
3. It has lib armor.
4. It flies as fast as a motherfucking mossie - what the fuck?
5. It has a 12mm gun, just like a mossie - only 50 rounds per clip (not enough to take on an AMS, but REXO won't stand a chance).
6. Unlike a BFR it's easy to obtain - clocker is the only pre-requisite.
7. Not directly related, but clockers with their gay instagib guns are more common...

The above are my gripes about the new vehicle. However, one thing that is great, and rarely used I should note, is the ability to deliver 4 REXOs with great speed and invisibility at the same time. It opens up various capture and re-secure tactics and also allows carpool option at low cost.
