Is the last remaining MMOFPS on the market breathing it's last?

Betting is, that Planetside has seen better times. The amount of leaving threads on the public forums, the server populations, the activity of the remaining outfits - it all indicates, that planetside is dying.
It's hard to say who is to blame for this development. Is it SOE with their latest patches that completly ignored the voice of the community? Or is it the general attitude of the remaining playerbase that turns every fight into boring stalemates?
Fact is, that the level of the ingame-hostilities reached an all-time-low. Every kind of organisation seems to have vanished completly, the majority of the commanders gave up their attempts to lead and the dimwitted playerbase zergs from hotspot to hotspot while only numbers determine the result of every fight.
But due to many players leaving the game, massive imbalanances between the populations of the several empires are becoming a severe problem on all three servers.
SOE's next patch will include the addition of so-called 'Black-Ops' - playercontrolled Super-Soldiers with a multiple of health and armor who basically fight all three empires.
While especially the dwindling veteran playerbase expressed their concerns towards this and pronounced the cancelling of many accounts in uncounted posts on the forums, SOE completly ignored the valid arguements and today updated their testservers with the new content.
Time will tell if this will be the final deathblow to the gameplay. It's not said that the servers will go down. MMO's self-finance pretty well, whoever doubts that should take a look at Neocron, which is dead since 3 years and still it's servers are up - However it is somehow reminiscent of the sad picture of a prosperous coma patient waiting for someone to finally pull the plug.
Rest in Peace, Planetside. It was a pleasure to have known you.
