View Full Version : Leff, you didn't miss much...
...except the first time BOs ruin gaming - and I can say, the worst came true.
As I said a few weeks ago, in case this happens, sub is cancelled after 4 1/2 years and PS deleted from the harddisk.
Fair well guys GROUPSEX & tell me if there are any good games out there - not run by SOE, like :duel:, of course.

sad but true... it was the last straw.
I witnessed this aBOsurdity tonight... Can only quote JMaxx's comall: "...I'm out. Fuck this"
cya, JMaxx, was good playing with you,
all the best
Sadly, I renewed just 1 week ago and while the money itself is not much I am bothered that SOE gets a free ride.
I was playing my TR Werner for the first time ever, I was BR 3
I find it Ironic that I played for years on my other chars and NOTHING SPECIAL EVER HAPPENED
1st day on my new TR and I was made a BO
I honestly cannot see what point they serve, I mean there wasn't even a challenge.
They aren't amazingly fun to play and I expect that they are BS to fight against, they serve no purpose as far as furthering the game goes, and they undermine some of the core values of PS.
I still play some becuase they are only an event and I hope not to see them too much

Nicely put!

ah well.
PS is on its last legs these days for a variety of reasons.
1) Its age, its been fantastic it has lasted so long, absolutely amazing. Mainly becuase its the only game out there that offers what it does.
2) Population, see age, people are bored of the game, becuase well they have played it for years and years and years. But low population breeds low pop. The fights are not what they where becuase less people are playing, less people are playing and therefore less people play organised.
3) Additions that don't add much, or add too much.
Dont get me wrong some things have been perfect. The scout rifle, using it yesterday, its a little underpowered but not too far off what it should be. Skyguard, the current phantasm (not the first.) Think the dragon is about right at the moment, the scorp is about right, it was perfect on release but hey. There are others.
But other things are way out of whack on the risk fun scale. Gal gunships are just bizarre, gunning them you will not kill much becuase of the other gunners and the need to keep moving. Leff is right on this you can do much better by sticking everyone in reavers and mozzies. On the other hand its not very fun to go up against a gal gunship becuase it appears you are not doing anything. These combinations of frustrating items dont help the game. Black Ops was just a silly idea from the word go, an AI empire would have been a better idea in my opinion, not a super soldier, not that I consider an AI empire a fantastic idea either, but it would have changed things.
Oshur cluster, it was an attempt to make smalling fighting areas, and it failed, what with the current pops, you barely get started on an island and your on to the next one, everyone gets bored and buggers off elsewhere. The difficulty in opening the cont is maginifed by having to do it on each cont itself. Oshur was at its best though with its opening special rules. If anything Oshur should have been one cont seperated by large amounts of water. Would have worked better.
They stopped doing some of the stuff that got people organised and playing more. Outfit wars was pretty succesful, outfits stopped being lazy, got together, became more active and practiced. Some of the most intense fights was around the start and just after outfit wars. People actually used the equipment in many different ways. Fantastic.
Yet they dropped it, becuase the lead designer went to Vanguard.
Overall its just an old game now, it is the only one of its kind. I have played it for years, and I am looking at new things to play now. No other game has kept my interest for so long, its really addictive. Yet when I log on and see a situation develop and realise itll be a shit fight for the next hour or two, I cannot be assed to try and solve the problem.
Never mind, hopefully well see a replacement to PS in the future, it certainly isnt Tabula Rasa, but could it be twilight war? doubt it as it appears to have very little presence out there. Im sure well get one, but when?
You never know SOE may actually manage to turn PS round, well log on one day and see 2 or more pop locks on each side, and it will be with calling all the old ex players together again. This could only happen with PS2 though.
Certainly right what you said; one point is missing though, the pop imbalances, that lead to frustration aswell.
Instead of applying the rule of 1 server=1 empire, they lowered the timer and paved the way for even more imbalance than back then - and the lower the overall pop, the more critical this is.
SOE should have applied above rule and then slowly started to balance the game, which, btw, is more than just buffing and nerfing weapons.
Also highly overdue is improvement to gameplay. It can't make sense, when more than half of the empire's pop is CR5! Lol, this was the case 1 week ago. And it also can't make sense when there is no winning condition, at least on a daily scope, with a little bonus for the winner.
To my believe, it would require just little to resurrect the game to a state it could survive another 2 or 3 years. But whatever change, it must be inline with the original concept of PS. Armies organised by ranks, fighting for ground. That simple.
Soe knows fuck all about mmos as they proved just again. I started to play Tabula Rasa yesterday, and I really enjoy it so far (although im a complete noob yet) - maybe any of you want to check that out with us ? We have some FA(nG) guys playing that already since beta, they won every single clanwar so far ;)
Is it pure PvP too, like PS, with factions?

No, it's pure PVE from what I've heard.
It is PvE with some PvP options, though I understand that PvP takes the back seat.
There must be PvP MaxPwnsYou, since, according to LEFF, there are clan wars

no, its a pve/pvp mix. You level your character by shooring NPCs Opponents that attack your bases all the time. While doing that you can declare war to other clans and shoot them 24/7 everywhere...
1st person? 3rd person? real shooting or just wow like? =(
3rd person (like cornercamping 24:7)
the aiming is a mix between rpg and fps combat, its definitly funnier then wow though and you can use cover, jump around and outmove your opponent to avoid getting hit.

and where did you read about the FPS part ?
Rumors, forumtrashtalk and the like since there is no "features" section added to the homepage yet...
But could you imaging running around as a GoaŽuld and casting spells? :P

hmm
Twitch vs Turned Based
Many MMO's often have their combat categorized as turn-based whereas FPS's tend be termed twitch based. In an MMO environment where a shard is being accessed by many more people than in a FPS, there are a number of potential problems with a twitch-based environment. Issues with hardware, bandwidth and connections may end up penalizing many users in this sort of combat environment. This is why CME have not decided to go with a purely twitch based combat system. However players will not be pausing and unpausing combat as they take turns to shoot at each other. The developers are currently working out how to reach a balance, maintaining fast paced combat with the feel of the show, while avoiding most of the issues surrounding latency. They are confident that while not being strictly twitch based, it will feel like real time.[22] (http://www.stargateworldswiki.com/wiki/Combat#_note-21)[23] (http://www.stargateworldswiki.com/wiki/Combat#_note-22)
Targetting
Stargate Worlds will use a targeting system typical of other MMORPGs.[24] (http://www.stargateworldswiki.com/wiki/Combat#_note-23) Players will be able to target their opponent through keyboard targeting and target lock. Target lock will allow a player to use certain abilities whilst they are on the move.
Hell, u cant xcept anyone to AIM while MOVING. I mean, seriously, no.
-.- stupid buggers.. <.<
whats up with all this MMORPG bullshit .. There are at least as many fps players as there are rts/rpg gamers these days so wtf...

Considering the FPS feature is the only thing that kept PS alive for 3 of it's 4 1/2 years, it is indeed strange that devs insist to just clone less successful variants of popular games.
