For those of you that don't know, are new to FA or just haven't noticed the name change on the forums FA is now officially 10 years old!
As far as we're aware this makes us the longest standing gaming community on the planet!
Bit of history for you now I'll keep it short.
FA started out as Blood Moon which was a local serial connect community setup by myself and a few friends in our town. We played serial linked Doom, Descent, Duke3d and a few others bits and pieces like stunt car racer and such on our Amiga's :)
Towards the mid 90's the internet was taking off and we moved onto there still as Blood Moon but playing games across our 14.4 modems.
Then came the release of Quake at this point we changed to FA and started playing clan matches. Whilst this was technically the first founding of FA we didn't really become the FA as we are today until 1998 when our first website went online.
So we celebrate FA's birth as the date our first website went online. I really wish I had a copy of our first website still but over the years and many PC change's later its long since lost.
We've seen some high points and some low points in our time as a Clan and later a Community we've gone from having some top flight divisions to having some more casual divisions, we've gone from having 1500 active members at one point playing in a single game to having 2 members in some divisions just playing for fun.
I've tried over the years to make FA a home for everyone be it casual or hardcore and hopefully been able to deliver a place where all gamers alive have and still do have fun.
Whilst the original founders have long since left leaving only me there have been some notable people over the years that have contributed ALOT to FA and have often picked up the slack from myself when time has not been quite so available to me.
I think its only best I list a few of them here so they can finally get some recognition.
Phil Ashton - Real life friend oO setup Blood Moon serial gaming community with me.
Peter Bailey - Real life friend oO setup Blood Moon serial gaming community with me.
Phoenix[BM] - Ran the Quake clan and arranged games and recruited people like nuts.
Mastah - Founded FA's first Major division with me containing more than 5 members in a game called Planetarion.
Monty - Brought the Irish into FA in planetarion. Basically most of the members of boards.ie that played planetarion were members of FA at the time.
Kjeldoran - Joined FA in planetarion a year or so after its creation did alot of the work I didn't have time for organising it and making it a success.
Leff - Helped us merge FA and nG into FAnG in planetarion to create what later became the top alliance in the game with only 200 people we held our own and beat 1000+ member alliances.
WarriorJedi, Homerio, Fridge, Deffie, Rait, Solly, Carpeia - FA.CS division and currently our most successful division ever.
Avoch & Uriel - FA's current wow division leaders both past and present these guys picked up the slack from me on so many occasions and have put so much time effort and work in to keep the wow division alive that without them we wouldn't even have a wow division.
There's literally hundreds of others I could add to the list but I'm not partly because I don't want to fill the page that much and also because I just can't remember names or spellings.
Over the years FA has literally cost me hundreds of thousands of pounds and you know what? I don't regret any of it and would spend it and do it all again without hesitation.
Thank you all for sticking with me and FA all these years I hope I can continue to provide you all with a community to be proud of and hope we can last for another 10 years.
Enjoy the cake.
