View Full Version : What class will you look at playing in WotLK?
As the title says, what class interests/intrigues you the most?
Will you stick with your "main" or change to one of your other characters?
Having seen the changes to trees in the Alpha/early Beta, I am starting to think that Druids/Shaman will be mainly focused on Healing (as Resto trees are severely overpowered)
Mages are obviously dps, but Frost looks like a viable tree.
Paladins, hmm... back to holy or would tankadins be viable still?
I am mostly interested in how the changes to Paladin Seals and Judgements work out. Especially seeing as Paladins get 3 judgements now, that can return hp & mana among other things.
I'll keep my eyes open, but it's going to be a tough choice!
VOTE NOW!!!

I'll stick with my mage, unless there is more need for a shadowpriest.

Hald, what guild you raiding with Atm?

I voted Druid, but tbh, it's down to the end product between Shamans/Druids/Paladins
Mages look like they have a severe case of Nerfbatitis!

What else is gonna get nerfed with mages, apart from poly?
Also, it'll all be alot less dramatic then the rumours say but ok.

Nope, you'll probably suck at playing a DK ;)
Well as long as i am the only one sucking at it noone will notice, or ill just singlehandedly blame blizzard ;-)

I'm currently in Syntax Error, but they are having a hard time finding healers to get raids going again ... so I'm pretty much just chilling on alts

Mmk, I applied and got accepted in Apathia. BT and MH on farm so I hope I can pick up where FA left off ...

I'll try out a DK, they sound interesting. Otherwise I might go back to my Shaman or possibly my druid if he's capped by then as a healer.

ill give blizzard 30 years to have a decent amount of classes instead of 1 new one per 2 xpacs when wow is already boringly low on classes, then maybe try the game again. hopefully they add something fun to do in it by then too, another arena queue, daily quest or raid instance and i think i might be sick.

Class balance > number of playable classes. I've played many games with a huge number of classes, which results in:
a) classes never being equally balanced (unless they're mostly the same, which makes having different classes pointless)
b) some classes always becoming grossly overpowered after "fixes" to make a shit class playable again
c) some classes always being grossly underpowered compared to the classes that were recently "buffed" from being shit
d) repeat
Which results in people having loads of characters and changing their focus very often, but not because they like to play this or that class, but because this or that class is more powerful than others due to the developers' fault of introducing too many classes and failing to keep them balanced.

your post is hilarious because it suggests that wow is even close to balanced with its tiny amount of classes, its not, its just as unbalanced as games with 4-5x more classes.

An RPG game with multiple classes can never achieve total balance, making everyone equal against everyone in every game situation. That'd effectively mean either a boring game or classes duplicating each other. The situation that WoW is at is a classic paper-scissors-rock, meaning every class has its counter classes and easier-to-kill classes, and that's as optimal as you can get in a game with vastly different playing styles and tactics, and yes, I'd call that balanced.
You get to a level where there's no real point in adding any more classes because their playing styles will start duplicating each other, which makes their existance pointless. Sure, you can mock it up in different animations, different ability names, different look, different lore..
But it all comes down to the classic D&D warrior, cleric, rogue, mage, and their hybrids and modifications. You can call it in a different way or make a hybrid, but that's about as far as you can ever evolve it. Even if you make a "class-less" game where you don't pick a class and choose your path later, you're still picking one of those classes. Which brings us back to..
still waiting for someone to implement the bard character class... =)

Too add to the discussion...give some indication about what you consider the inbalanced in WoW compared to whatever game with 30+ classes. I thrive on numbers so use them :-)

agreed
so i don't understand the benefit of having so few classes, especially when blizzard has the money to make the game so much more.

daoc had 45~ classes after a few xpacs, some of which were extremely unique like the animist.
and 8v8 in doac was just as balanced, if not more balanced, then 5v5 in wow

I capped several classes in DAOC (Bone Dancer, Warrior and Huntress) and really enjoyed that game aswell.
But I don't think you can compare the amount of classes with WoW. Mainly because in DAOC you have 3 realms with EACH a different set of classes. While in WoW, both "realms" have the same basic classes, just different races.
Also, I agree that there are some very unique classes in Daoc, like the bone dancer or the bard, but most classes in that game are just 100% as the counterpart on another realm.
Also, like Grindcore or Avie said, there are only 4 different type of archetypes (mages, tanks, healers and rogues) and a whole bunch of hybrids etc ...
If Wow had 3 realms and each realm would have, like in DAOC, different chars who are really alike, then WoW would also have 30 different chars ...
