View Full Version : nVidia display problems :o
So... the other day was browsing some forums and thought, what the hell. I should restart playing EvE-online.
I started playing ...and after a few hours, my computer crashed, giving me up a BSOD. It said that my drivers might be the problem and I should reinstall them.
Ok... at first I didn't really get to see the message, because the windows simply restarted one second later, but this got more and more frequent while playing eve (and only eve). So today I got this crash like every 5 minutes.... :|
I reinstalled the drivers (uninstalled them in safe mode, and installed the new ones from the nvidia website) but nothing has changed. What should I do ?
Now that you mentioned it...no :p going to do that :p
don't bother its not the install :)
lemmie guess you have either an Nvidia GFX card or Nvidia MB or even more fun both combined :)
Your also using the eve premium client and most likely vista ?
Windows XP
EvE Premium
VGA: nVidia 8800 GTS OC
MB: don't really know, think it's intel. Didn't look it up for quite some time now :p
hrmp you shouldn't have bsod's in XP but its a known problem that the nvidia 8000 series gpu's with vista are very badly supported and cause random blue screens in
eve
stalker
tabula rasa
nvidia just can't be arsed to write proper drivers for it all.
the solution anyway is to use the eve classic client and not the eve premium client
...but why is this happening ? the last time I played eve on this pc I had no problems... :| (back then was only trinity available)
it happened in trinity too it just got worse with emp age.
they're basically removing the old gfx stuff completely and rewriting it for the latest gfx cards unfortunately nvidia put features in their cards and dont support them properly in their drivers.
isn't there another way other than changing to the classic graphics ? :/
not that i or the eve devs have found we did a good 2 weeks solid debug on the premium client me supplying them as many dumps as possible they narrowed down the cause but are awaiting an nvidia fix :(
you're working with CCP ?:O
Or simply volunteer duty ?:P
EDIT: I just installed the classic version and have the same problem.
EDIT: Trying Sp3 for XP ...it happens that I missed that one.. maybe it helps :|
if it happens on classic client no idea.
i'm not working for ccp i was just providing them with information about my crashes they asked for windows dump files, client log files etc etc
Installed sp3 and it's still crashing on classic client. It does when I enter a specific area in a mission. I have no problems whatsoever in stations/outside stations...
tried to post on their forums, but it seems I can't :|
as i trial user I dont think you can post on the forums though you can submit a bug report either ingame or using the website ticket system if its only on a specific mission and specific area it could be something in that mission its self so best to let them know.
I used the in-game ticket system, I hope they'll answer asap :p
So uhm.... did like the GM said, and shut down the sounds ingame ... it worked -.-
weird you say ?
Thanks for the help guys though!
I think I have that issue, would explain why my sound is disabled now.
hrmp you shouldn't have bsod's in XP but its a known problem that the nvidia 8000 series gpu's with vista are very badly supported and cause random blue screens in...
Never had it in STALKER once, and I run on max all the time. Never had driver related issues with Vista in EVE either, nor in any other game aside from AoC CB.
8 series are riddled with problems though generally, that's why the 9 series is practically the same performance wise just with less creases.
.......aaaaaaaaaand the crashes started again :|
The Gm said this time I should upload him the minidump file that is created when my pc crashes... :) this is really getting annoying :|
Anyway, if any of you want to look at that minidump :P
It's found here (http://warhammerro.no-ip.org/misc/Mini080608-04.dmp)
Did you disable the audio in the settings at the login page and through the settings once you are ingame?
I disabled the ones that they said I should, the one from my motherboard in bios. The errors aren't that frequent anymore, but still are :|
I've sent 2 minidump files from my crashes and they've responded that he hasn't seen such a crash before (lucky me...) now I have to disable the autorestart on crash from somewhere... have to figure it out from where, and then I have to send them the details from there.
Update:
This is what they requested :/
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0xBF801c4D, 0xA5649c44, 0x00000000)
WIN32k.sys - ADDRESS BF801c4D base at BF800000,DateStamp 48025F2A
oO thats a primary system file you should never get crashes on that unless your install is fubar oO
A lot of places are suggesting certain viruses/rootkits being responsible, have you done a full scan using an up to date scanner?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945658/en-us
http://www.osronline.com/DDKx/ddtools/bccodes_59k7.htm
That STOP code means "KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED", and the first value inside the brackets is a parameter that means "0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION".
"If the problem is associated with Win32k.sys, the source of the error might be a third-party remote control program. If such software is installed, the service can be removed by starting the system using the Recovery Console and deleting the offending system service file."
"Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing bug check 0x1E. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve the error. You should also run hardware diagnostics, especially the memory scanner, supplied by the system manufacturer."
That might help.
I had radmin3.2 and VNC installed on my... I removed them, hopefully this was the problem.
I have also run the memtest the gm told me to, and my ram is fine.
Hello,
This error exactly what it looks like. Your USB drivers are causing this crash. I did some more research on this, and your drivers are at fault, or it comes back to your memory, though this is less common. What USB devices do you have installed? Have you updated the device drivers for these recently?
We could try disabling virtual memory within Windows to see if this helps at all. If this is disabled, the most likely cause will be your hard drive.
1. Head to Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select Performance and Maintenance
4. Select System
5. Select Advanced Tab
6. Under Performance, select the Settings button
7. Select Advanced Tab
8. Under Virtual Memory, select the Change button
9. Set your Page file to 500mb. If this does not change, turn it to 0.
10. Select the Ok button to apply the settings
11. You must reboot for the changes to take effect
If this solves your blue screening issues, your hard drive is to blame, if not. Take out a stick of RAM and try this. If this does not fix it, swap sticks of RAM until the problem is solved.

Running your machine without a pagefile?? Generally any problems I have with nVidia graphics cards can be resolved by installing a beta or older driver (not the cutting edge released one they force down your throat). How about you start from the top and stop your machine from restarting so you can get a clear view of the error message? At least then you'll have a vague clue of where to start...
