I just have an exchange server in a vmware machine, for project use... Service fails to start on startup, so this is in the event log:

<3 M$ errors
one of our servers randomly rebooted without putting anything into event log stating it had even rebooted...

Something caused it to halt and reboot or? Event log doesn't really log sudden crashes or reboots of the entire os very well, or it just creates a really weird ass event...
ah no it shut down half the services and then theres nothing in the log for 10 minutes before it prints the windows version (first message entered into event log after booting)

oO Thats odd lol, server with own will..
i reckon the ups probably failed during shutdown, but there was no 'shutdown' log entry either
Well if it suddenly had no power it could not have written an log entry huh.
still doesn't state what caused it to start killing services, shutdown message should preceed services stopping :)
And the server boots and is fine now? Strange happening indeed.
So whens your company migrating to 2k8... Believe me if i say that will cause a lot of fun!
all of our important servers run linux, the only windows servers we have are a mssql database server and our pdc. there is no benefit to upgrading to 2k8

Well your PDC would benefit ;)
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKSSSS
giga, it was clear from the title of the topic that this would be a geeky topic... please refrain from stating the obvious ^_^
ROFL thats like when I had a blue screen and all is said was "a hard error has occurred"
I wet myself for hours.
You should see some of the errors that come up in eve-online then you can see the programmers humor.
There errors with blatant non sense "This is not planet, this is moon" or "17:51:24 Notify Domination Armor Explosive Hardener is already modifyActiveArmorResonanceAndNullifyPassiveResonan ce" Which makes no bloody sense whats so ever and is only funny if you play eve.
"Notify mining laser is already mining laser" WTF? In otherwords something bad happened and you post the log and they are like ah yes we are working on a fix...

Thought you always wetted yourself?
As you don't know me I would reserve such comments for your own head.

not to mention the good old fashioned ''The Internet' cannot be stored in the Recycle Bin' from back in the ie1.0 days
