View Full Version : what is everybody's pc spec?
i was wondering, since while my machine is perfectly capable of playing quake 4 etc but seems to fail at playing most of the newer stuff - what is everybody's pc spec and what sort of games do you play on it?
mine is:
shuttle sn25p chassis+motherboard
amd x2 3800+
integrated sound
geforce fx7800 gt
1.5gb of ram (ddr2)
pair of western digital raptors (75gb) in raid1
outside of the box ive got:
maudio studio monitors
pair of cheap 17" monitors
logitech mx518 mouse
random keyboard
i would post a pic but its nothing special :p
the games i generally play:
quake series of games (3,4, other things based on id tech3+4 engines)
neocron (its still installed, haven't played it for a while)
eve runs ok on it but i never got through the free trial
fallout 3 runs ok at 800x600 :(
mass effect
call of duty 4
c&c3
I got some random case.
a gigabyte mobo, forgot which one, has an onboard raid controller.
2 320gb drives on RAID 0
Geforce 8800GTX
3.25 gigs of ram hyperX?
3.00ghz pentium dual core processor
creative XFI card
Samsung syncmaster 22"
2.1 creative speakers
Razer Krait mouse.
some 10 buck logitech keyboard.
played Crysis, COD4, neocron, EVE.BF2, BF2142. IL2. Lock On. STALKER.Oblivion. Planetside.
Something to keep in mind about fallout is that its based on the oblivion engine, which is not very well optimized and uses a lot of stealth loading. Mods and graphics patches for oblivion really sped it up a lot, as did official and unofficial patches. Using a soundcard really speeds it up, especially in areas where there are lots of people walking around and such.

LOL I have the same ram as him GEIL! I remeber that in neocron I think as being an emote and oh its pretty good cheap ram.
Heh and you have the same ^^
lil t your specs are almost identical to mine when I first built my desktop. The extra gig and new hard drive were the only upgrades. I had 250 to start. You have a better processor though.
amd x2 4200+
ati x1900 crossfire edition
160 gig hdd
creative audigy gamer, old ass sound card(like 5 years I think?), but I don't see a reason to upgrade it if it, since it's just sound
2.5 gigs of ram, can't remember what type, it's Corsair though, I remember that
19" accusync 900, a cheap generic monitor I'm assuming
Logitech z-5500 505 watt 5.1 speaker(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121120), bought this when I was still living at home, can't use it now else neighbors call and complain. If you can hear neightbors knock(not banging, just knocking normally) on your door, while you have it on, it's not that loud in my opinion.
This pc is three years old, I would upgrade, but I got a xbox 360, so I'm just going to do my gaming on thatkiss
Inside the box:
EVGA 680i SLI Mobo
QX6700 @ 3.5 Ghz
nVidia 8800 GTX OC
4GB Corsair DDR2 @ 1066.7

Creative XFI Extreme Gamer
Outside the box:
Logitech X-540 Speakers

What can/do I play?:
Can comfortably play CoD4, UT3, Crysis, WAR, EVE, STALKER:SoC, STALKER:CS, HL2 Franchise, TF2, C&C3, C&C:RA3.
Probably going to upgrade the graphics card next year, as the next decent upgrade for me would be to change mobo and memory to go for DDR3 and a higher FSB for future upgrades.

I bet yours is just as speedy as mine, I don't see any reason to upgrade to the best hardware untill I run into games it can't run, though a solid state disk would be nice.
I don't see any reason to upgrade to the best hardware untill I run into games it can't run.
That's why most people upgrade you gay genius.
What I really meant is I don't see the need in buying the most uber expensive hardware ever just for the sake of getting and extra few frames per second.
time for me to upgrade i think, i wanna see fallout 3 in all it's glory
