The sort of thing that makes you go ‘wow’. Maybe you don’t say it out loud, but you know what I mean. I just go ‘blimey’, or something, in my head. I’m always amazed by the beach, at certain times. Having grown up with it basically on my front doorstep I probably take it for granted like a brat, but in a strong moonlight or an awesome sunset, even at this time of year, I’m reminded why I’m continually drawn to it. It might sound rather sentimental, but I’d refer you to a certain bear (not paedo) who sometimes appears on here.
Very occasionally a film/tv show or game will do it for me. I think the last game was probably Max Payne 2, six years ago, but I was probably more easily-impressed and less cynical then. Just the narrative and the way the unashamed melodrama worked so well made me burn through the whole thing in one sitting. Television, likewise does this rarely, but a certain pair of episodes of The Wire viewed very late one summer evening kept me buzzed long into the small hours.
People who are so arrogant/selfish/vindictive as to provoke ordinarily passive, decent folks to commit acts of violence. I’ve only felt like behaving in this way once or twice in my life, but when it happened the feeling was extraordinary. Fortunately I possess good self-control and patience, but I have no doubt that had things transpired a little differently, it would have been unpleasant.
Finally, my optician. The man is unbelievable. I’m not one to go about swearing my mouth off, but the man is unfuckingbelievable. I went for a test today, something which should take 15-20 minutes. He talks a great deal, though, and it never actually takes 20 minutes. Today he took the piss, with half an hour either side of the test spent chatting on a wide variety of subjects.
Usually he sticks to eye-based topics and other scientific shit, with his brilliance as an underpinning theme. At first it was contact lenses and how they can fuck you up if you don’t use them properly, cases he’d seen etc. and advances in the industry. Then to the black market for organs, which he assures me is virtually non-existent in Britain, at least for eyes/parts of eyes.
Then to social decline, obesity and the media. We discussed Hollyoaks for about 15 minutes, agreeing that it was a curse upon the country and filled with awful role models for young and impressionable types. He told me that the obesity epidemic is akin to a juggernaut speeding down a motorway with a few ants telling it to stop.
Then he told me he hates journalists and their slippery, twisting methods. Fascinating. Perhaps I should feel flattered that he'd rather spend an extra hour at work talking to me than get home to his family (I was his last appointment).
I know what you mean man, the stars in the night sky does it for me every time, I once saw them while in the dessert and I was gob smacked. I just stood and looked in awe of the milkyway's blue band going right across the sky, amazing sight I'll never forget. You could point at one spot in the sky and there was hundreds of stars in that one point, we can't see that many stars here with so much light pollution.
Yah, fields at night, standing on a balcony when the sun comes up above Amsterdam.. Stirring up my cars engine in the middle of the night taking some winding roads. Waking up next to a girl you love. Their the things you cherish in life really, the small things!
Other things that amaze me, most of the EVE online trailers make me think omg must reactivate. Some music I listen to for the first time really impress me and alter my mood quite a bit but this stuffs just me. One thing I think most will agree with is seeing a newborn baby for the first time, you can immediately see the innocence and none corruption and you just think wow isn't that amazingly beautiful.
guess i'm quite simple i think hendrix is amazing. some of the sounds he could get out of a guitar which when you watch him doing it seems like he's doing hardly anything. impossible to replicate nobody can not even some of the modern greats

Hinch, fair fucks on the Hendrix call. Not a huge fan of his music but doesn't take a genius to see he was a seriously talented bloke. For me, though, music really does the 'wow' thing at specific moments in songs, and you can't help but go back and hear it again.

What really impresses me are the few people that stand against the tidal wave of humanity to declare their views and opinions... kind of like martyrs but without the religious belief side of the story... My brothers impress me a great deal too. My older brother is working at an economics research firm in London about 12 hours a day including commute and he still takes the time to call me to ask me how I'm doing. He used to be a bit arrogant, but he's turned into an alright person. Clever guy too, he finished top of warwick uni for his masters in economics and was player of the year for football. My younger brother is very shy like me, but he's a genius too, got sportsman of the year at his school. He's 14, but he's 6'0" and he's fucking strong and lean, plays basketball for under 17s. Good kid though, even though he's shy he still stands up for his friends. He once beat up 6 guys who were a couple of years older for bullying his friends and accidentally broke one their arms too. The best part is that he really looks up to me. Don't tell them that I said any of this though :p
I'm not usually one for materialistic things, but something that has impressed me over the last few years are the ideas and realisations of these ideas in the world within a world that is Dubai... some of their concepts for buildings are immense...

My bf's family are so well off its sickening. But they won't even buy a new cooker which they have had since like 1901 until it breaks.
He's the same he won't buy a new car cause he doesn't see whats wrong with his... Although he's not tight with money 'cause he does buy me lots of things and I get what I want.

There not stingy though, they splash out on important things, like for the whole family... Like holidays etc where the family can be together. But not irrelevant shit like cookers when they already have one that heats food up nicely.
Strange 'cause i've always been spoilt but my family arn't particularly rich, just comfortable.
And I'm completley different, everything with me is materialistic because everything was given to me.
i actually reckon it doesn't matter how rich you are it's how your parents have brought you up to deal with money, thats how you'll turn out.
